The Galaxy Z Flip 7 Has the Upgrades I Actually Want – Finally!

Hello everyone. Let’s talk about the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 7 – the phone that wants you to believe it’s the sleek, futuristic lovechild of design brilliance and AI wizardry, yet somehow still manages to feel like it’s playing catch-up in a few, rather important, boss battles. Yes, Samsung has “finally” decided to move the design dial forward after two years of camping in the safe zone, and don’t get me wrong, the Z Flip 7 is prettier, thinner and better in a number of areas. But oh boy, it still carries the baggage of old mistakes like a stubborn raid member who refuses to learn the mechanics.

Design and Build – Slimmer, Sexier, Still Shackled

I’ll give credit where it’s due: this is one of the thinnest foldables you can buy right now. The cover panel stretches across the entire folded width, which means Samsung has wrestled back some screen real estate from Motorola’s smug grin. Bonus points for finally boosting the outer panel to 120Hz refresh rate. Navigation, notifications, quick replies – all snappier, smoother, and more satisfying than last year’s limp attempt.

Alas, the outer panel is still locked away from full app usage unless you dive into the murky waters of third-party fixes like CoverScreen OS. It’s like buying a next-gen gaming console only to find the manufacturer disabled half your library “for your own good.” Meanwhile, Motorola is happily letting you play the whole game while Samsung plays parental control police.

Display and Performance – Pretty Pixels, Held Hostage

The outer 4.1-inch OLED packs solid colors, good vibrancy, and just enough brightness to survive outdoors without forcing you into a vampire aesthetic. Not quite Pixel 9 Pro XL bright, but not “Is my phone dying?” dim either. Inside, the Exynos 2500 is running the show globally, and – brace yourself – it doesn’t choke under normal use. It will throttle when you push it, because, surprise, foldables aren’t heat management champions. But compared to other flip phones, it’s holding its ground like a tank with a decent healer on standby.

Storage and Battery – Progress Meets Stubbornness

Samsung deserves a polite golf clap for finally killing off the miserly 128GB base model. Now it starts at 256GB – a baseline that’s about as overdue as giving Rogue players an off-hand weapon. But the battery? A 4,300mAh cell that’s bigger than last year but still small compared to the competition. It’ll get you through a day if you’re “medium” on usage, but heavy gaming, navigation, or streaming will have you scrambling for a charger faster than a raid group when the healer disconnects.

Galaxy AI – Hype, Hope, and “Meh”

Samsung is leaning hard into Galaxy AI as if it were a secret weapon forged in the deepest levels of a tech dungeon. And yes, it has tricks for image editing, text assistance, and other neat party tricks. Personally, I don’t find myself using it much; it’s like a flashy skill cooldown that looks cool in the trailer but spends most of its life on your hotbar untouched. Still, for AI enthusiasts, there’s genuine utility here – just be ready to face the fact that it’s more icing than cake.

Better than last year, still not living up to its full potential.

And that, ladies and gentlemen, is entirely my opinion.
